We find a VHS tape (glad to see that’s still a mechanic) and by watching it, we learn a little more about Ludwig, and there are some very strong hints towards some of this game’s backstory. His office is a little run down, but still surprisingly well-kept considering how long it’s been abandoned for. We find a key with a poppy flower on it, and with Poppy creepily giving us directions from an unknown location, we find ourselves unlocking the door to the office of Elliot Ludwig, the founder of Playtime Co. Of course, she is no longer in her case, so off we go into the factory to try to find her. The chapter opens up with the VHS recording that was revealed a little while ago, and then we find ourselves right where chapter 1 left off, in Poppy’s room. With all of that said, let’s get into the game itself. This is a solid and very enjoyable chapter from beginning to end, and I’m really glad that chapter 1 wasn’t this game’s peak. In terms of gameplay, it follows the formula of completing tasks and frequently returning to a common area, which would normally be a problem if there wasn’t something new and uniquely scary every time you venture off into a new area. This chapter builds up a feeling of dread that many of today’s horror games fail to accomplish. It was well-paced, the character designs are immaculate and terrifying, and it’s not all just cheap jumpscares. There’s a lot that was executed really well here. There is never a moment where you will truly feel safe. Throughout the chapter, the player is either suspended in anticipation, or outright panicking. They did not hold back on making the second installment just as scary, if not scarier, than the first. Say what you want about MOB Games (and believe me, there’s a lot to be said), but they still know how to make a horror game. This will be the first post in a series where I try to explore the little details of this chapter, and see what it can tell us about what’s going on in the shadows of Playtime Co…įirst, let me just give my overall thoughts on this chapter. The long-awaited second chapter of popular horror game Poppy Playtime has finally released, and with that comes more characters, more areas to explore, and more lore. Thanks for the support on the series, and now let’s begin. If you haven’t seen it, there’s a new page on the site where you can see the whole series. Before we begin, I want to thank everyone who checked out my new original story based on my musical project VIRUS, titled “Reaching Out”! It was my first time ever doing storytelling in that format.
